Frequently Asked Questions -

There seem to be so many Pilates teachers out there with very little consistency on quality of training.  What should I look for in terms of qualifications?

Find out where and when the instructor was certified.  Check to see if the course was a minimum or 450 hrs with required apprenticing.  There are many great certifying centers but probably twice as many weekend workshop certifications.

Find out how many hours teaching experience your teacher has.  Also what % are classes  or private sessions.  A Master trainer would have well over 10-15,000 hours taught in addition they will usually have additional accreditations, certifications and traingings which add to their depth of knowledge. Senior Instructor generally around 6-10,000.

Any reputable studio will hold liability insurance, require all trainers to hold additional insurance. If you are rehabilitating and are looking to work with a Pilates instructor, make sure you are going to be work with someone who is recognised by an insurance company as a certified professional.

If your trainer is working with different apparatus such as Reformer, Rack, Chair, TRX, or any other prop they should hold a certification or proof of attendance at credible workshop. All too often an overzealous instructor with a lack of training can cause you more harm than good. A trainer should always be able to explain why they are using a piece of equipment.

When comparing Studios check length of time in business.  Research the website and see if they show pictures of the studio.  Check out any testimonial pages, compare them to other studios, are the messages from people with real names?

How is Pilates North progaming different from other exercise programs?
We place great importance on creating more strength and mobility in your  core – abdomen, lower back, inner/outer thighs, and hips.   We focus not only on strengthening, but lengthening and toning your entire body at the same time without adding bulk to your muscles.  The key to our system is an increased awareness of eccentric contractions (what lengthens your muscles ) and balancing postural muscle groups. Our direction is driven by our clients progression. It is not about what we know it's about what we need to know to make their

Usually you will start lying on your back and progress to your side or front, to seated and then to all fours.

How many classes a week should I do?
While Pilates is ideally done at least 2-3 times per week, most people feel the benefits from just 1 workout a week. We have clients that come 6 days a week and those who come every other week. While we would love to see you everyday, we leave the descion in your hands. Only you can decide what feels best for your body and what works best for your time.
