What is the Walkilates Program?
The Walkilates Program was developed by Pilates North. Is a a structured walking group that is designed to add a cardiovascular component to your weekly exercise routines through a guided walk. The programs integrates all of the principles learned on the mat and equipment in Pilates classes into an outdoor Walking Program.
A Pilates North instructor will lead each group. The route and distances have been pre-planned (5-6 k to start). The goal is to have the group walking at a comfortable pace, we want you to feel relaxed and able to carry on a conversation.
We will provide you with a comfortable progression of distances and change of pace and terrain to ensure your training is successful. You will have variety and flexibility within the program to progress at your own pace. We will help correct gait patterns and walking technique for those wearing MBTs
What are MBT’s?
MBT©, Massai Barefoot Technology shoes are designed to mimic the walking patterns of the Massai Tribe. The rocker bottom forces you to adopt correct upright posture and reduced forward lean, reducing strain on the lower back. The gait also uses the gluteal muscles more than regular shoes, toning and firming the buns. The rocker bottom forces you to roll through each step, reducing shocks to the foot.
How Do I Get a Pair?
Pilates North are the National Trainers for MBT. You can make an appointment with us for a fitting. We will be happy to order your shoes.
Do I have to Walk with MBT’s?
Absolutely not. There are so many benefits to walking. A normal pair of running/walking shoes is fine. The MBT’s simply provide more challenge to the walk. Some people may prefer to “work up” to the MBT’s.
